Description – Protection for the Optic Nerve. Lowers the IOP and provides neuroprotection. Protects the retinal ganglion cells and the optic nerve, preserving the visual field. Prevents the degeneration of the ganglion cells in the retina.Brimonidine tartrate 0.2% has the action of lowering the intraocular pressure with minimal effect on cardiovascular and pulmonary parameterts. It is an alpha-adrenergic receptor agonist. It has peak hypotensive effect occuring at two hours post dosing. Brimonidine tartrate has a dual mechanism of  reducing aqueous humor production and increasing uveoscleral outflow.
